Is LED lighting right for your home?

by June Alvarez

What lighting do you have in your home? Traditionally, many homeowners used fluorescent or halogen lighting around their properties, but there is an alternative option that is gaining in popularity. In recent years, LED lighting has moved from just being components in electronic devices to becoming a mainstream method of home lighting. Here are four reasons that you should seriously consider using LED lighting in your home.

LED lighting is cheaper

For homeowners, the lower energy usage and the associated cost savings will always be a popular reason for switching to LED lighting. LED lighting will, on average, use only half the energy of conventional lighting, with the largest savings being seen when lights are switched on for an extended period.

LED lighting lasts longer

Replacing burnt-out light bulbs is a hassle. It takes time and money to replace bulbs since every bulb that fails must be replaced. Most incandescent bulbs will provide light for around 1,000 hours, while LED lighting could last as long as 25,000 hours before replacement. A longer working life saves you time and money on your household maintenance.

LED lighting is tougher

Have you ever had the experience of dropping an incandescent light bulb while you were changing it? Quite often, even if the glass bulb does not shatter, the filament inside the glass comes apart, and the bulb is useless. With LED lighting, there are a lot fewer elements that can break. LED lighting lacks both the glass bulb and the sensitive filament. It is still possible to damage LED lighting with a direct impact, but they are not sensitive to vibration as traditional forms of lighting can be.

LED lighting is not affected by cycling

If you have used traditional lighting in your home for any length of time, you will know that the more you switch the lights on and off, the shorter their lifespan will be. Additionally, the more rapidly incandescent bulbs go through an on/off cycle, the likely it is that their lifespan will be shortened. With LED lighting, the situation is entirely different. They are unaffected by a rapid cycle and are therefore ideally suited to flashing light displays and many other roles where rapid cycling is needed.

Installing New Wiring in Your Home

Hello! My name is Joanna and this is my electrical DIY and repair blog. I decided to start this new blog so I could help others to learn about easy DIY jobs they can complete around their homes. It is also important to understand when it is time to call in a professional electrical contractor. When I moved into an old property, I didn't have a clue about the electrical side of things. I was really worried because the lights would flicker and sometimes the sockets would feel warm. I called in an electrical contractor and he helped me to get the place repaired and gave me some fantastic advice.
